Thant came to us with a Bachelor’s in Electrical Engineering and a strong desire to work in the robotics industry.
In the Robotics Mentorship, Thant created a Segway (self-balancing) Robot as his capstone research project and is in the process of transitioning his career out of IT and into robotics this year.

“I just want to reiterate the point that what I find very useful in this program is that being able to talk to an Expert like you, Liz, and check-in every week, and get my questions answered and look at positions together with you (Liz). And get very specific advice like whether these positions are right (for me). Some of these positions, like on my own, I would never even considered them. But having you say, as an expert, that these positions are right for me, that’s where the value is.”

Robby came to us with a non-technical background in sales. He was tasked to manage business processes at his company and was drowning in manual, repetitive tasks. It is really cool that there are physical robots — Boston Dynamics has a robot that does backflips and stuff — but there are a lot of businesses that are trapped in paperwork and that could be easily solved with automation. A lot of businesses that don’t have the time or expertise to implement automation. Learning business automation to optimize and automate a process is set it and forget it and my life is a lot less stressful.”
If you’re on the fence about working with Liz:
I think you should work with Liz compared to [random courses in python or robotics] because it’s very hands-on. She’s worked with multiple people across the [robotics industry]. The 1:1 tailored support actually works and is better than a 10-page module on how-to’s.
Additionally: “Liz’s is knowledge outside of robotics and training — even stemming into the knowledge and self-confidence. Being able to have her coach me through the stress — I’ve been able to take this mindset shift across sales and my automation projects. Just that alone is amazing.”
Robert came to us to enhance his “hands-on” prototyping and coding skills so that he could build a model “Spot” robot dog — the infamous robot from Boston Dynamics. Just having a clear pathway forward in his project with guidance and direction helped him make progress on his project. We helped him gain clarity around his project so that he could add robotics to his resume.

It’s sad when a project you’re working on reaches a standstill…well what do I do now? Liz helped me map out the next steps that I can take to make progress on my robot…” I didn’t know where to head next in my project. I decided to work with Liz to have her help me map out the next steps. I have a mechanical background and have never programmed a walk cycle. This gave me clarity on what to do next to move forward with my robot and get it programmed and working!
I’ve been in IT for about 30 years and I’m switching over to robotics software engineering and I know it’s kind of late i in my life, but I just had this passion for it for the last 5 years and started slowly moving into robotics.
I’ve been looking a long time for somebody who even knows ROS and can talk about it and talk to someone face-to-face, and not just an email conversation. It was very informative. Angel was looking for a straightforward way to get job offers after college. Before he joined the program, he had an hourly minimum wage job working in IT. He just finished his bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering and wanted to start his career in robotics. He worked with Liz and in 90 days, secured multiple job offers for robotics roles at startups and corporations. For any aspiring, seasoned, or non-traditional engineer who is looking for grounded and constructive advice about entering into robotics; Liz is a great mentor. Liz is a well-rounded roboticist as she has studied, worked, and researched the robotics industry. From our multiple conversations, the best part I’ve always appreciated is her ability to construct a game plan about the goals you want to achieve. I’ve met with other engineers and from experiences, I can say this, ‘Everyone can provide advice, but very few can provide it with context and action behind it.’
