Finally, Learn Arduino Without Any Coding Background.

If you’re struggling to understand coding & electronics and don’t know where to start, then this course for you.

Course #1: Arduino for Beginners

Take your coding and circuit skills to the next level with the First Course in the LR Alpha Series.

Master Programming Arduino

We know how daunting Arduino can be. The comprehensive Arduino training in this course is geared towards non-techies and covers everything from setting up Inputs and Outputs (I/O), to creating reusable methods, understanding conditional statements, how to read data from sensors, and all kinds of other features using the Arduino IDE.

Wire Prototypes Using Electrical Diagrams

Reading electrical schematics and wiring diagrams might sound overwhelming. The modules in this course break down how to interpret wiring diagrams, what the symbols mean, and how to translate that into a wired prototype.

Gain Familiarity with Sensors & I/O

Sensors might be very confusing, but we walk you through the basics, starting with Inputs and Outputs (also known in tech-speak as “I/O”) and working our way through Digital and Analog signals. If those terms are foreign to you, basically, we’ll teach you how to connect a device to the controller and talk to it with code.

Learn to Teach Others

A big part of this course is the ability to take the knowledge you learn and be able to teach someone else. Whether you want to work on a project with your kids, start a. robotics club, or teach a STEM class, Arduino for Beginners will give you the tools you need to inspire the next generation of engineers!

Convert Ideas into Working Devices

We don’t just give you a bunch of projects to copy and paste the answers. We guide you through a project start to finish and equip you with the process of starting from nothing and making a working electronic prototype. We’ll show you what components you need, how to wire up the circuit, and how to write code to communicate and make decisions with your sensors.

Become a Prototyping Ninja

By the end of this course, you’ll have the skills you need to go out and make your own devices, learn more advanced topics in electronics, or start and teach STEM classes. The life skills you learn from this course are directly transferrable to engineering school, technical professions, or teaching careers. Once you know the process of working with electronics, you’ll be able to use thousands of sensors and create whatever device to get the job done!

What People Are Saying

Is Arduino for Beginners for Me?

Answers to the Most Frequently Asked Questions

What is the LR Alpha Series?

The LR Alpha Series is a collection of robotics courses that provides a roadmap for learning. This course, Arduino for Beginners, is the first course in the series. Once you finish Arduino for Beginners, you’ll be ready to tackle Build Arduino Robots, where we build robots from start to finish. The LR Alpha Series has its own robotics kit, LR Alpha Kit, which has all of the components you need to complete both LR Alpha Series courses.

What if I already know Arduino? Do I need to take this course?

If you already have a foundation in Arduino (I/O, configuring sketches, interfacing with libraries, wiring breadboards, Analog vs. Digital signals, etc.), you do not need to take this course. If any of those topics are fuzzy or unfamiliar to you, we recommend taking this course before moving on to Build Arduino Robots. This course is designed for beginners (or as a refresher) so that you can eventually create your own prototypes and start building robots.

Do I need anything for the course?

Yes, we recommend getting an Arduino kit for this course. You can purchase the LR Alpha Kit which contains all of the components you need for this course and our second course, Build Arduino Robots. Save 25% off the LR Alpha Kit when you enroll in both courses.

How difficult is the material to learn?

We won’t sugar-coat this: Learning technical skills is challenging.

However, if you’re determined to review the material and enjoy learning new things, we’ve designed the course to be digestible for even the beginner of beginners.

If you have questions at any point during the course, we’re here to help you.

How long do I have access to the course?

You have 100% Lifetime access to the course. We also don’t impose a time limit on how long you have to complete the course.

If I'm older, can I really learn this stuff?

The content is designed for beginners of all ages, with or without any experience with coding or electronics.

If you have basic computer experience (downloading files, typing, installing programs) and a desire to learn Arduino, then this course is for you!

How long does it take to complete the course?

The course is self-serve, so it really depends on how fast you learn the material and how much time you put into it.

I’ve seen students complete the course in as little as 2 weeks.

Most students spend roughly 1-2 hours working on the course per week.

Do I get a certificate for completing the course?

Yes. After you complete the coursework and score an 80% or better on the final quiz, you’ll be rewarded a Course Certificate.

Who teaches the course?

The instructor for the course is Liz Miller, a Robotics Engineer. Let’s be clear – Liz isn’t your typical professor. Most students describe her as “challenging, but wicked fun!”

Her experience spans tenures at UPenn GRASP Lab, MIT Robotics Prep courses, and Engineering work for United Technologies Corporation.

Liz is also the creator of Learn Robotics and has extensive industry experience writing controls code for a variety of Industrial Automation equipment.

She’s also taught robotics to hundreds of students in person and thousands of students around the globe.

You’re in good hands! 😉

I have a technical question about my specific project. Will you help me?

We are happy to help you with any questions you have about the lessons or course work.

Custom project support is not included in the course. We offer individual consultations booked by the hour if you need assistance with your specific device.
